What is Triathlon?

A triathlon is an athletic event made up of three contests. In contemporary usage, the name triathlon is mostly applied to a combination of swimming, biking, and running in that order. These events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence and a competitor's official time includes the time required to "transition" between the individual legs of the race, including any time necessary for changing clothes and shoes. You don't have to race in an Ironman distance event to say you have raced a triathlon. There are many race distances out there to try. Many of us who race now started with the shortest distance and have worked our way up to the longer races. The following distances and race notes came from "Wikipedia" and give a good idea of what you can expect.
